Homeopathy books for home prescribers
Recommended general homeopathy books in order of practicality
For those who are interested in pursuing homeopathy, here are the books I highly recommend.
Every one of these lives on my bookshelf long term and has withstood the test of time with thousands of parents all over the world.
Homeopathic self-care: The quick and easy guide for the whole family
by Judyth Reichenberg-Ullman & Robert Ullman
This book comes as the MOST highly recommended by at home prescribers known to me. The Ullmans have long been serving the spectrum community and have been supportive of those who choose to use homeopathy at home for acute complaints.
Whole Woman Homeopathy: A Safe, Effective, natural Alternative to Drugs, Hormones, and Surgery
by Judyth Reichenberg-Ullman
This book helps a woman treat herself effectively for a wide range of common women's health conditions, while directing her to seek professional help from a competent homeopath when necessary. It also shows her how to find the correct homeopathic medicines for self-treatment and the fifty homeopathic medicines that should be in every woman's home medicine kit.
The savvy traveler’s guide to homeopathy and natural medicine: Tips to stay healthy wherever you go!
by Judyth Reichenberg-Ullman & Robert Ullman
If you want just one book to take on your travels, this would be the one! The book includes how to prepare for your trip, what to take with you, how to stay healthy and safe, and homeopathic and natural treatment for 68 travel health conditions including traveller's diarrhea, altitude sickness, jet lag, sunstroke, and dengue fever.
The complete homeopathy handbook
by Miranda Castro
This was one of my very first books when I started out using homeopathic remedies for acute illnesses for my family. Then as a student, I was delighted to meet Miranda Castro in person, and she was an amazing teacher. If you are beginning to use homeopathy at home, this is one of the must haves.
The book includes A-to-Z listings for external and internal remedies, with explanations for correctly diagnosing the symptoms of any particular injury or illness. The book also includes ten case studies and specific dos and don'ts to follow when treating more than seventy conditions.
Homeopathy for Pregnancy, Birth and Your Baby’s First Year By Miranda Castro
by Miranda Castro
Most people who are introduced to homeopathy out of a necessity to find natural support during pregnancy and a baby’s first year of life are mothers. Miranda covers pretty much every contingency during pregnancy, delivery and the first year for both mom and baby. From morning sickness to post-partum depression, to breast feeding to teething issues…she covers it all. An excellent resource for new mothers.
Miranda is one of my favorite homeopaths and is a great encourager and generous soul. Check out her website, as well, to find lots of resources and articles.
Homeopathic medicine at Home: Natural Remedies for Everyday Ailments and Minor Injuries
By Maesimund B. Panos and Jane Heimlich Foreword by Dr. Robert Mendelsohn
Dr Panos was one of the early homeopaths to compile a book that was useful for the home prescriber. It was the first of its kind and was extremely useful to those who were new to homeopathy in a way that no other books had been up to that point.
Dr. Robert Mendelsohn the author of How to Raise a Healthy Child…In Spite of Your Doctor wrote the foreword in this book. I use the tips in his chapter on fever extensively in my courses. His advice is as relevant today as it was in 1987 when the book was published. I wish I had read this when I was raising my children, I would have done two things differently: I would have chosen vaccine free options and refused fever suppressing medications – especially after vaccination.
As a result of my decisions that I now regret, this has become the reason I teach homeopathy and infectious illnesses, so that you can be well informed and make the health decisions that are best for you and your family.
Everybody’s Guide to Homeopathic Medicines
by Stephen Cummings & Dana Ullman
This is the very first book I bought and used extensively when I first learned about homeopathy. The book is an easy read and covers any and all common complaints that you might face with family and kids. The writers also include a discussion about when you might need medical help at the end of each illness, which home prescribers might find especially helpful.
As my go-to for all illnesses for the family at home, I remember reading out loud to my husband – listen! It says that the remedies are diluted! That was my aha awakening moment to the idea of dilution and potentization. How could diluting a substance make it ‘stronger’ or more effective?!
Homeopathic Medicines for Children and Infants
By Dana Ullman, MPH
After I bought Ullman’s first book (Dana Ullman is not related to Judyth Reichenberg-Ullman or Robert Ullman), I bought his book for Children and Infants. I found it helpful to have more than one book when I was first learning homeopathy…that and I love books!
Even though it covers many acute illnesses, this book is specifically written for children’s complaints and he recommends remedies for more than 75 physical and emotional conditions, including: allergies, grief, anxiety, headaches, asthma, measles, bed-wetting, nappy rash, bites and stings, shock, burns, sunburn, colic, teething, coughs and colds and travel sickness.
Do check out Dana Ullman’s website. He is another homeopath who generously shares articles and resources, promoting homeopathy every chance he gets.
Homeopathy for Children
by Gabrielle Pinto & Murray Feldman
If you are a ‘to the point’ kind of person, this is the book for you! You’ll find homeopathic remedy pictures along with common illnesses in a quick reference, alphabetically arranged guide – a fast and easy read for the parent with a kid who is sick now! (Murray Feldman was also my teacher at the Vancouver Homeopathic Academy)

The people’s repertory
by Luc de Schepper
Once you have learned a few remedies and how to use them in acute situations, you may start to find that well selected remedies suggested in the beginner’s books seem to be limited for what you need. You may start to discover that the symptoms of an acute illness are different than the most common ones used in a complaint. What to do?
Using a repertory (a book that lists symptoms in an organized manner from head to toe) is the next skill to develop. Luc De Schepper has written an excellent beginner’s repertory to help you get started on ‘figuring out a remedy’ using the unique symptoms when you or a loved one are sick.
When you start studies as a homeopath, this is one of the skills that you must master before taking on patients.
Kent’s lectures on homeopathic materia medica
by James Tyler Kent
When you first start using homeopathy at home for acute illnesses, you learn what are called ‘keynotes’ or ‘characteristics’ or a ‘picture’ of the remedies and what they can be used for. Eventually, as you learn more and more remedies, you need a book or two that describes the remedies in more detail. Kent’s Lectures is one of the classics and one of the books required when you study homeopathy formally.
You can also start with taking my Just the Remedies courses: Level I and II https://powersofhomeopathy.com/homeopathy-remedies-online-course/ to learn more about each of the most common remedies.
Homeopathy: Medicine for the new millennium
by George Vithoulkas
George Vithoulkas has been practicing homeopathy for over 60 years now and is credited with the renaissance of homeopathy in North America. He has been awarded the Alternative Nobel Prize for Health in 1996. Vithoulkas’ books are a must read if you want to understand the science of homeopathy.
Impossible Cure
by Amy Lansky
One of the most remarkable stories you will read is in Amy Lansky’s book Impossible Cure. Her son Max was diagnosed with autism and today, through the use of homeopathy, he is ‘normal.’ The story in itself is remarkable, but Amy’s understanding and introduction to homeopathy is brilliant. If you’re finding it difficult to explain homeopathy to family or friends, give them the gift of this book!
“[Impossible Cure] is the finest general introduction to homeopathy I’ve yet read… [Lansky’s] writing is magnificently crafted, and all her facts and figures are as straight as can be. She weaves together a seamless exposition about homeopathy — what it is, how it developed, what research exists, and with it gives us her personal journey of discovery…” ~Julian Winston~
Amy is one of the most interesting people you will ever meet! Check out her website and read her son Max’s story called, “A Carcinosin Cure.”
Book list in order of most useful for how to use tissue cell salts
12 Essential minerals for cellular health: An introduction to cell salts
by David Card
If you are just beginning to learn using the cell salts, this is a good book to purchase. This is one of the books I refer to in the Cell Salts course that I offer.
Facial diagnosis of cell salt deficiencies
by David Card
Another book that I use with my Cell Salts course and it offers an interesting way to determine deficiencies, by reading the facial features.
Some of what is covered in the book:
The simple visual clues that can point to imbalances in digestion, metabolism, and nutrient absorption―if you know what to look for
- The little-known connection between facial texture and specific cell salt deficiencies―and how to read it with confidence
- Why so many people chase symptoms for years―and how your face may already be showing you the root cause
- A step-by-step method to “read” your own face in minutes―even if you have zero background in health or diagnosis
- The overlooked role of cell salts in maintaining vibrant skin, steady energy, and overall balance―and why most people are deficient
- How to recognize early warning signs of imbalance―before they develop into more serious conditions
- What the color, tone, and elasticity of your skin can reveal about your body’s internal state―often before symptoms appear
The biochemic prescriber: A handy guide for prescribing Dr Schussler’s biochemic tissue salts to family and friends
by Prashant S. Shah
This is the perfect size if you need a guide that will travel with you and your tissue cell salt kit.
The 12 tissue remedies of Schussler
by Boericke and Dewey
This is a reproduction of the classic book on Schüessler’s 12 Cell Salts. This is probably the most complete of any book on how to use the tissue cell salts. It is one of the books that I use in my course on Cell Salts.
The chemistry and wonders of the human body
by Dr George Carey
Carey’s book is like the Boericke and Dewey book in terms of how it is organized. If you had to choose just one book, I would suggest the Boericke and Dewey. Carey’s book was published after (1894) Boericke and Dewey’s (1888) so that is likely why the overlap.
