How many of you know the Old Testament story of Abraham and Sarah? When Abraham was 100 and Sarah 90, the Lord told them they were going to have a baby.
Here are Abraham and Sarah’s responses at hearing the news:
Abraham fell facedown; he laughed and said to himself, “Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?” Genesis 17:17, New International Version
So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, “After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I now have this pleasure?” Genesis 18:12, New International Version
The miracle of conception and birth…when least expected and long forgotten as a possibility! As if in on the joke, God instructs Abraham to name the child Isaac (Genesis 17:19), which in Hebrew means ‘laughter.’
Although I am far from being 100 or even 90 years old, I am of an age where I am laughing at my current situation. Am I pregnant? Nah (but you were wondering weren’t you?)…but pregnancy and birth are great metaphors for what is happening in my life at this time. Something new, something exciting, and something as big as the pregnancy and birth of a baby is happening right now.
With the capable assistance of Casey Sangmeister, Powers of Homeopathy is ‘gestating’ a digital homeopathy magazine. I have to add, this has been an extraordinarily long, elephant-size gestation. We are talking two years for gestating elephants before they give birth, and getting this project off the ground into cyberspace has been at least two years, more like four years! Casey has been the ultimate ‘pregnancy’ coach. She knows exactly the perfect words of encouragement when I am bloated and heavy with magazine possibilities and asking, like Sarah of the Old Testament, ‘after I am worn out and old, will I now have this pleasure?’ God sure does have a sense of humour!
Then I read this quote (after researching longest gestations for mammals) and laughed even louder.
“Long developmental periods are common among highly intelligent animals. Since elephants are the largest living and biggest-brained land animal in the world, there’s a lot of developing for elephants to do in the womb.”

Maybe this little magazine just needs a lot of time in the womb to grow a very large brain to hold a whole lot of information about homeopathy!
Unlike Sarah and Abraham, I cannot claim that God spoke to me in person, but I do have to tell you that this idea is divinely inspired. What possessed me to sign up as a beta tester for a magazine app? No idea. Really. None. Not. A. Clue. Except that the ‘idea’ of an idea took hold. An inspiration whispered into my inner being and darn, the idea would not leave me alone.
So…sign up I did.
Like Sarah and Abraham, I wonder sometimes if I can meet the time and energy demands of ‘raising a little one’ long after the biological fact of age. The learning curve with the technology is huge, both for me and Casey, but as with parenting and expecting a new one (whether baby or pet), having a caring partner makes all the difference in the world. Kudos to Casey! At a time when I am cognizant of my age, I am also aware and grateful for the 20- and 30-somethings in my life who are willing to support me in this project. You all rock! The world is in good hands judging by the tech-wiz ‘kids’ in my life.
And being the age I am does offer the wisdom of knowing when to receive help, the wisdom that says ‘gee…I really don’t know it all!’ Those 20- and 30-somethings know what they are doing and I am extremely grateful to receive their help, insights, encouragement, values, and commitment to creating a better world for all. Really. They are amazing!
Where Do Inspirations Come From?
Here is the definition of inspiration:
a: divine influence or action on a person believed to qualify him or her to receive and communicate sacred revelation
b: the action or power of moving the intellect or emotions
c: the act of influencing or suggesting opinions
About the time that I considered the cosmic proportions of being inspired to put this digital magazine together, my mom reminds me that as a child I was always doing this. What?! “Yes…you used to put all your pens in a jar, line them up, have your papers there…just what you are doing right now. No different really.”
And look at the ‘desk’ I created during my summer writing sabbatical at my folks’ home…ha!
I guess the Divine has had a hand in this magazine idea for as long as I have been playing with pens and paper. Took me a lifetime to figure that one out! I guess if Sarah and Abraham can be creating life well into their 9th and 10th decades, so can I. You too!
Then I recalled school days where I would colour, print, and bind (always looking for a heavy duty stapler) ‘books.’ My mom even saved some of them, hiding them in one of the storage boxes under the stairs. I am still fascinated by the making, printing, creating, writing, and reading of books. I love the convenience of digital but there is something about the look and feel of a book in the hand.

Although the homeopathy magazine is going to be digital, we will be moving into some amazing technology that will make you feel like you are ‘playing’ with the information as much as reading. The magazine will be a different look and feel in the hand but even more fun. Imagine…a magazine that moves and talks! Another memory floats through my mind: I was quite sure that some of the illustrations at the back of the little ‘Golden’ readers moved. Possibly I was drifting off to sleep, but in my child mind, I would have sworn the darn things moved!
We will keep you up to date with the progress. (Hint…watch for a new website.)
For those of you who might be interested in what I am reading and listening to this summer, here’s a peek! After all, a picture is worth a thousand words…guess that is why I am looking forward to the digital magazine. You will be getting video, audio, and homeopathy galore!
The digital magazine app is for you, your family, and for the world. Please let me know what you would like to see, to read, to listen to, and what would make this your favourite magazine ever? What have you always wished a magazine could do or be? And yes…the illustrations will move! Maybe it was not a late night hallucination I had as a child, but an angelic prophesy, an inspired idea, a divine message. Life is mystery…and you are never too young or too old to have a visitation.
