What is homeopathy?

Permalink to What is homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a system of medicine founded some 250 years ago by Samuel Hahnemann, a German medical doctor. Disenchanted with the practice of medicine and the harm that it was doing to patients (bloodletting, purging and poisoning which compromised immune systems), he left his profession to translate medical texts. During this time he formed a philosophy of health, disease, medicine and cure, a philosophy that honored a physician’s highest oath and calling i.e. “first, do no harm.” Homeopathy’s highest aim and only calling according to Hahnemann is to restore the sick to health…so that our indwelling, rational spirit can freely avail itself of this living, healthy instrument for the higher purposes of our existence.

HOMEOPATHY is a system of treating sickness or disease, which utilizes micro-doses of substances from plants, mineral or the animal kingdom to arouse a person’s natural healing response. Homeopathic medicines stimulate the person’s overall resistance to infection by strengthening the organism so that it is more capable of healing itself.

HOMEOPATHY studies one’s whole body and mind and individualizes the person with the illness. It then applies medicines to the person with the disease according to the specific principle known as “Similia Similibus Curentur” which means “Let Likes be Treated by Likes”. According to Samuel Hahnemann, the father of homeopathy: Any substance that produces specific symptoms in a healthy person when given in its full strength form will cure a sick person with those same symptoms when given in a very diluted form.

HOMEOPATHY treats the person as a whole. It recognizes the fact that the whole person is affected when becoming sick…that the body, the mind and the spirit are affected. It treats the whole person, not just the diseased part. The homeopathic approach of treating the person as a whole makes it a holistic therapy. HOMEOPATHY is a sustainable pharmacy, requiring small amounts in the pharmaceutical process and requiring only small amounts to stimulate the body’s healing response. Homeopathic remedies are non-toxic, non-addictive and gentle.
